Faith in Motion/ Boys & Girls Club Service Project

Green Class Students are expected to volunteer two Wednesday afternoons in the spring semester assisting a Burgundy & Black Class level student at the Faith in Motion/ Boys & Girls Club Service Project. Class curriculum will be overseen by Ms. Shay and a B&G Club staff member.  This service project gives SSOD students an opportunity to develop leadership qualities and teaches them the value of serving others.

Procedures

In order to facilitate traffic, please enter the property from Zetterower Avenue and exit onto Donaldson Street.  Please drop off and pick up your child at the sunroom door on the side of the building. Please do NOT park in the drop-off lane to walk your child in. If you are a student driving yourself, please park behind the building.  Parking is available for parents and student drivers behind SSOD.  Please, be respectful of the Split Ends’ business and customers by not using their parking lot.

Performance Etiquette

Performance is a group activity.  Everyone should be equally prepared in order to produce the best performance possible.  Therefore, students performing in recital and other performances MUST attend all rehearsals.  Failure to attend rehearsals will result in being removed from the upcoming performance.

Attendance Policy

Students are strongly encouraged to attend all classes.  Those missing more than 25% of classes or rehearsals may be removed from a performance or risk having their role performed by an understudy.  This decision is up to the instructor.

Master Classes: Master Classes with guest teachers are offered throughout the year and dancers are strongly encouraged to attend.

Summer Classes: Be on the lookout for our Summer Fun Dance Camp held each June!

Dance Attire

Proper attire is critical to dance classes.  All students must be prepared and properly dressed for class in order to reach their full potential.  The color level indicates the leotard color that should be worn to class. Uniforms are required. Color leotards can be purchased through the studio.

Ballet: Girls wear their specified class-colored leotard, and a class colored-ballet skirt, pink tights, pink ballet shoes.  Hair should be in a bun, no bangs.  Boys wear a white t-shirt, black shorts, tights or leggings, and black or white ballet shoes.

Pointe Shoes: The director determines when female students begin pointe training.  Pointe work can injure a dancer if not taught and executed properly.  Pointe work is not based on age, but on individual readiness.  Dancers must have developed correct upper body placement, ankle strength and proper turn-out to safely perform “en pointe” particularly on stage.  Usually at this level, dancers will not perform “en pointe” unless the director deems it appropriate.  The director has over 31 years of ballet training.  Please trust her experience and knowledge for proper guidance on this matter.  Pointe shoes should be fit by a professional and the fit should then be approved by the director before sewing ribbons and elastic.  If you have any questions regarding pointe shoes, please see the director.

Tap:  Shoes should be low-heeled tan tap shoes.

Jazz:  Shoes should be tan jazz ‘gore’ slip on boots.
