Ms. Shay Morgan Honored with Deen Day Smith Award

Last month, Statesboro School of Dance Artistic Director Shay Morgan was honored with a Deen Day Smith to Mankind Award. Over the past 29 years, the annual prestigious, invitation-only event has recognized hundreds of members of our community for their efforts to help other people. This year, twenty people were recognized for their “unselfish acts…measure of caring beyond the norm…serving as beacons of excellence.”

From the Statesboro Herald’s special Deen Day Smith section,

“Shay Thompson Morgan has been an integral part of the Statesboro and Bulloch County community for many years. Shay’s Statesboro School of Dance has had a positive impact on both children and families, mentoring poise, discipline, beauty and a caring touch. Perhaps her most significant impact has been on the students from the Boys and Girls Club of Statesboro. The dozens of students from the Boys and Girls Club receive an introduction to the basis of ballet, dance, and tap. She does this at no cost to the students. Each year these students have their recital performance with all of Shay’s other students from Statesboro School of Dance. One such recital is “Faith in Motion,” which takes place each March in Georgia Southern’s Performing Arts Center. There is no admission fee and the opportunity for the students to perform on the stage of the PAC can be a life-changing experience.”
